PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has formed a Special Committee on Vaping chaired by its director general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Noor Hisham said the committee will be having its first meeting tomorrow (Nov 9) to trash out details of the contentious issues.
"We will be having our first meeting tomorrow and we will issue an official statement after. We need to look into vaping in detail," he told the press.
The Health Ministry had recently begun raiding vape or e-cigarette shops to confiscate liquid nicotine, which is considered a harmful drug by authorities.
However, vape proponents have argued that it is a less harmful and cheaper alternative to cigarettes, and banning it will only drive it underground.
The Malaysian E-vaporisers and Tobacco Alternative Association is also considering taking legal action against the Ministry.
In response, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said they have the right to take legal action and that the committee will be the one to issue statements related to the vaping issue from now on.
