KLCI slides in early Monday trade, key markets down

KUALA LUMPUR: Key regional markets including Bursa Malaysia fell in early Monday trade in a knee-jerk reaction to Friday's deadly attacks in Paris.

At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI was down 12.04 points or 0.73% to 1,646.87. Turnover was 109.48 million shares valued at RM36.59mil. There were 262 losers, 66 gainers and 141 counters unchanged.

Reuters said Asian shares and US stock futures were lower and the euro skidded in early Asian trading on Monday in the wake of Friday's deadly attacks in Paris, with stocks taking their cue from poor investor appetite for risk after the assault and Wall Street's steep losses.

Following the bearish performance in the US and Europe, JF Apex Research expects the KLCI to be negative with support around 1,650.

Meanwhile, BIMB Securities Research reported forreign funds stepped up their selling pressure on Bursa Malaysia in the week ended Nov 13 with net selling at -RM714.0mil, with the selling accelerating on the last day at -RM321.5mil.

Petronas Gas fell the most, down 56 sen to RMN22.34 and Petronas Dagangan 16 sen to RM23.26. MISC lost 14 sen to RM9.02 while UMW and Telekom Malaysia were down 12 sen each to RM7.84 and RM6.38.

However, on a more positive note, KL Kepong inched up 10 sen to RM22.64.

Gamuda added nine sen to RM4.59 while Top Glove rose seven sen to RM10.02.

Kian Joo was the top gainer, up 14 sen to RM3.35 and Can-One eight sen to RM3.96.
