KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the ministry (MOE) hoped to have more administrative assistants to reduce the burden of teachers.

"We have to list the number of adminstrative assistants needed by each school and then look at their salary. Then multiply the number of schools with the number of administrative assistants.

"Imagine the expenses to be incurred by the government. We need further study on this matter ," he told reporters after visiting Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih, here, today.

Administrative assistants (Grade N17) were placed in schools in Melaka and Kedah under a pilot project.

This followed the establishment of a committee in 2010 to study the burden of teachers.

Mahdzir said the matter should be coordinated by the Technical Committee between the Finance Ministry (MOF), Public Service Department (PSD) and the Education Ministry.

"Only then, we talk about the number to be recruited, timeline and so on."

He said the ministry had other ways to reduce the burden of teachers and one of them was through high Internet penetration.

"A high Internet penetration in rural areas will reduce the burden of teachers," he added.
